Welcome to Opening Acts
Opening Acts is a great way for young children to get an introduction to music. Children, ages 2-5, and their parents/guardians attend weekly sessions on Saturdays. Together, children and their families will experience music by singing, dancing, and participating in rhythmic and movement activities aimed at developing musical internalization and expression. In addition to being a fun activity for children, this class helps prepare them for enrollment in private lessons by introducing them to different ways of music-making and fostering a sense of musical creativity.
Opening Acts is drop-in friendly, so weekly attendance is not mandatory to participate, and you may start at any point in the semester.

Meet your Opening Acts Instructor
ELLA FOX is a soprano currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Ella has a love for teaching and helping others strengthen their love of music. She began teaching private lessons at Expressions Music Academy over the summer, where she developed a strong passion for individualized instruction and student growth. In addition to her private teaching, Ella serves as the Co-Music Director of the a cappella group The Bloomingtones, leading rehearsals and fostering strong ensemble skills. Her previous leadership experience includes serving as a student director for her high school’s tenor/bass choir and assisting with a children’s choir, both during her senior year. Ella loves to practice and teach many types of music including, but not limited to, pop, R&B, jazz, and classical. Ella is committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that builds confidence, musicianship, and a lifelong love of music.

Sing it Like a Pop Star
This is a new camp at the academy! The class will focus on learning good technique for singing songs that the students will choose. In addition to learning how to sing and study these chosen songs, there is the possibility of adding some simple choreography for the performance at the end of the camp for friends and family.

Rock On!
We haven’t held this camp in 10 years, but it’s time to bring it back! For this class, we will assemble small rock bands of 3-6 members, and they will learn about how to play together as a band, to collaborate to do songwriting, and to learn the logistics of being in a band.
Each student will receive private lessons on their instrument as part of the camp, and also, their teachers/coaches can attend the camp’s general rehearsals/sessions in order to see what might be most useful to work on privately.

This will be another mostly singing class, but the repertoire would be more cinematic and musical theater-oriented than pop.
